Another portrait

This one’s of Emma.

Just finished another assignment for Sundance Publishing, producing 4 illustrations for one of their short educational stories. They've kept me busy the past month or so. I’ll post the finals to the web site once there signed off. Speaking of the web site I’m busy updating it, well kind off redesigning it and plan to re-launch it in January or maybe before, if I get it finished earlier.

I was featured on the Coroflot network on the 8th December which has introduced a few more people to my work which is cool. Christmas cards have been sent out so keep your eyes open for a bright orange envelope from the postie.

Cheers.

November...

...has been a busy month, which was nice of course before Christmas. Finished a job for Sundance Publishing just before Thanksgiving and will be adding the final illustrations to the website for the New Year if not before.

A couple of weeks ago I was invited to talk about my work to a couple of the Illustration classes at the School of the Museum of Fine Art here in Boston, which was indeed an honour and privilege. The talk took place last evening and was great experience. I'd like to thank the students for listening, and not throwing sticks and stones at me. Also to Glenna Lang for giving me the opportunity to speak and talk about my work, processes and experiences. Also invited to speak was a fellow illustrator Ann Marie Piantedosi who I met earlier this year at the school. It was cool to hear Ann Marie talk through her processes and work too. So again thanks to all the students for turning up and listening too us. I really enjoyed it, hope you all did too.

Just a little something I'm working on at the moment.

Cheers.

Latest

First off I guess is a little reminder that I'm attending the Fall Folio Feast in Portland Maine this Saturday. An annual showcase of talent set up by the Maine Illustrators Collective. Should be good and looking forward to meeting the other illustrators face to face and of course the invited Art Directors and Art Buyers.

The limited time to buy the 'Scooter' print has passed. Not got a new print to sell yet, but hope to have something soon so keep your eyes peeled.

I've sent a couple of illustrations off to The Society Of Illustrators for consideration into next years annual. No idea if they will be accepted but I'd never know if I didn't send anything. So we've given it a go and will wait and see.

Cheers.

Hey there

Apologies if you tried to look at the website or e-mail me earlier today. The web hosting people were doing web hosting things so my site and e-mail were off line for a while today. Everything's up and running again now. Don't forget there are few other places where you can view some of my work, namely portfolios.com and Coroflot.

Cheers.

Sumatra

I hate coffee but like the packaging. Anyway this is a little sketch I did this morning while listening to Eric J. Olsen of Iconic Audio interview Charles Hively from the illustration magazine 3x3. It's part 1 of 3 and is worth a listen.

Need to plug in the ipod and get back to work on this years Christmas card now.

Cheers.

Chimp of the Month

For my kindness in wishing theApe a Happy Birthday on the 25th he's nominated me to be 'Chimp of the Month'. The first one at that on The Little Chimp Society.

What does this mean for me, well there will be a little thumbnail of one of my illustrations on the Little Chimps home page through October. Which will link to a little profile about myself and hopefully inform a few more people about my work. So it's all good shameless self promotion.

I've also updated the website and added a couple of new illustrations including 'Here Lye Red Sox'.

Cheers.

Dig this

'Here Lye Red Sox Season 2006' appeared in this weeks issue of Boston's Weekly Dig. My original intention was to try and get the cover. So the illustration has been cropped focusing on the sad little man and the gravestones. The un-cropped illustration with the skyline in the background will be on the website soon.

Cheers.

Here lye the Red Sox

A few sketches from my book, something I started developing before I went home to England last week. The Yankees have won the American League and the chances of the Red Sox getting the wildcard are slim. This seasons dead and buried.

I'll be adding the finished illustration to the blog and website next week.

Cheers.

Last song my ipod played today. Everything's Not Lost, Coldplay.

Run

Leave the drugs behind and just run!

Submitted to Illustration Friday.

Sleeping man

Having a bit of a shitty day, struggling to focus and concentrate on things. So went out for a little walk, sort my head out and get inspired. Looked through some books and magazines in Barnes & Noble, which seemed to clear some of the mess from my head. Walking back I saw this guy fast asleep on a bench. I wasn't doing much else so got the sketchbook out and spent 15 minutes just drawing which felt great. Loved the way the guys arms and hands were clasped round his chest.

Business Holiday

This is a little sketch idea from my book for an article I read about people being unable to detach themself from their work whilst on holiday. I was just flicking through my book and found it again and really liked it. Rejected it because the guy looks to be having to much fun and instead of it looking like he's dropped his phone, he appears to be throwing it. Anyway thought it was worth posting.

Cheers.

Little Chimp Society

I was recently invited by theApe at 'ApeFluff' to join the 'Little Chimp Society' A cool little blog featuring loads of other groovy creative types. Check it out to see some of theApe's work and loads of other good stuff and news of exhibitions and events here.

Cheers.

The question I've asked myself countless times is am I sometimes depressed because of the music I'm listening to?
Currently it's Thom Yorkes' 'The Eraser' which is not the happiest CD in the world, but I like it even if it's possibly making me feel a little blue.

Still a little hot, humid and sticky. Maybe chill out by reading a book or top up on the tan. Pink shades are optional.

Something for your wall

Set up a little store at cafepress.com here you'll be able to buy and bless your walls, with what I hope you'll agree to be some beautiful, quirky and sometimes humorous illustrations. First up is a little scooter dude, he's got a full tank of gas and not a care in the world. The poster is 11"x17" and printed on some good quality glossy paper stock. Hope to add some more to the store soon so keep checking back. Oh and another thing is I'm planning to only have the prints available for a limited time of three months. So come this time in October the scooter dude will be riding off into the distance forever.

Cheers.

Skyline

Painting I did last November, fits in with this weeks Illustration Friday topic. Acrylic on canvas, 40" x 30"

Portfolios.com

I've recently signed up to the Portfolios.com network. This I hope will give me some greater exposure on the web. My own websites doing okay, but portfolios.com is an established website community for illustrators, designers etc and attracts a good number of Art Directors each month. So hopefully this will give me a bigger chance to show my work, attract some new clients and maybe a chance to get some bigger and better assignments. To view my work featured on Portfolios.com click here.

Cheers, hope you like my little portrait

At the moment I'm listening to a little bit of Razorlight, followed by a good dose of Gomez's new CD 'How We Operate'

Layers Magazine

The illustration I did for my promo postcard is featured in the latest issue (July/August) of 'Layers' magazine. Not sure if it's available back in England, but it's a little more exposure for my good self. The magazine's a 'how to' for everything Adobe, aimed at designers, photographers, video and educators.

Looks like the little guy is trapped and trying to push himself off the page, which was all part of the original idea. Maybe he's not too keen on the other work or something.

Cheers.

idog

Not being responsible enough to look after a real dog, some friends gave me an 'idog' for my birthday. So whilst waiting for the kettle to boil I did some quick sketches of the little fella we've decided to call Samual Adams. After the Boston beer.

Like all robot dogs he likes to listen to a bit of Radiohead's OK Computer. He also seemed to nod his head to The Chemical Brothers too. Myself I'm surprisingly liking Kanye West's Late Registration.

Started this painting a couple of weeks ago and got side tracked with other things. This weeks Illustration Friday topic is 'Portrait' which has made me pull my socks up and finish it.

Graphic Artists Guild Newsletter

Sorry I've not written much lately but I've had a little work to do. I was asked to do an illustration for the next issue of World Watch magazine which was nice. I'm currently working on a project with a design firm from the Cayman Islands which is moving along steadily as we speak. Anyway sitting in the postbox yesterday was the latest issue of the Graphic Artists Guild newsletter featuring a cover illustration by my good self. It's always cool to see your work in print and gave me a bit of a buzz when Emma handed it to me.

Along with the cover I did an illustration to sit with the main article of the newsletter, I'm realy happy with how it's turned out. It's cool.

You also may have noticed I've updated the website too, adding some of this new work and improving some areas of site. So if you haven't had a look already go check it out and let me know what you think by clicking here.

Coroflot

Just listed some of my work and the website to Coroflot which hopefully will push my website to more people. Feel free to find and have a look at the listing at www.coroflot.com Being doing quite a bit of new work which I hope to add to the website soon, also still painting a bit. I think the Hockney exhibition has really inspired me. Check back again soon for news on the update to the website.

It's not quite right

but then there are times I look at it and I find it's not too bad.

Anyway been to the David Hockney Exhibition at the Museum of Fine Art which was pretty cool and gave me a warm fuzzy feeling of my home town Bradford. Don't feel like that often. Loved his pen & ink stuff, some of the paintings and photo montages especially the Polaroid ones. It's inspired me to do a bit more painting, portraits particularly. The first of which is above. A nice change of scene from the photoshop illustrations I'm working on at the moment.

Cheers.
